Cottage Delight.

Brooklands Way, Leekbrook, Leek, Staffs, ST13 7QF

Stafford 247 Says:

Cottage Delight offers a wide range of luxury foods made using traditional methods & the finest ingredients. If you’re after something different, whether it’s a gift for someone special or a treat for yourself then Cottage Delight is sure to please!
You won’t find any of their products in supermarkets either as they are only available to independent traders & to the public online or by mail order!
We had sampled a packet of their Mini Breadsticks with Tomato & Basil (purchased at a garden centre!) & were very impressed, so after spotting the web address on the back of the pack we thought we’d take a look at what else they had to offer & ordered a catalogue.

We received our catalogue within a couple of days & had a good browse. There’s an excellent choice of jams, pickles, pates, biscuits, sauces, condiments & more & it took us quite a while before we made our decision on what to order! We wanted to try a range of products & so here’s what we eventually decided on:

cottage

1 jar of Lemon Curd (315g) at £2.35
1 jar of Thick Cut Orange Marmalade (340g) at £1.85
1 tin of Pork Pate with Stilton (125g) at £2.35
1 jar of Mushroom & Smoked Garlic Pasta Sauce (270g) at £2.65
1 jar of Beer & Black Peppercorn Mustard (200g) at £2.30
1 packet of Mini Breadsticks with Tomato & Basil (200g) at £2.15
Peanut Butter Fudge (100g) at £1.80
Raisin & Rum Fudge (100g) at £1.80
The total bill was £22.20 which included a delivery charge of £4.95 (There is no minimum order.)
There are several ways in which you can place your order-by phone or fax, by post or online. We chose to order online & our items arrived about 4 days later (you may have to wait for up to 21 days if some items are out of stock.)
It was packaged well with lots of bubble wrap & we excitedly unpacked our goodies!
I couldn’t wait to try out the Peanut Butter Fudge & dived in as soon as it was out of the box! Although it was VERY sweet it was scrumptious & apparently so was the Raisin & Rum! Over the next few weeks we got to try everything out. For me the things that stood out were the Mushroom & Smoked Garlic Pasta Sauce which was used almost immediately, & the Beer & Black Peppercorn Mustard which had a multitude of uses including salad dressings & sandwiches! The pate also went down well; it was beautifully rich & a little went a long way!
We were very impressed with the quality of foods we received & although they were a little more expensive than supermarkets we felt it was more than worth it for something extra special!

Bored of the Board.

9 St. Mawes Close, Weeping Cross, Stafford, ST17 0HQ, Tel 01785 661432

Stafford247 Says:

Believe it or not I actually know people who like ironing………yes I think it’s weird too! I however avoid it like the plague but then it piles up & I end up having nightmares where I’m chased by a giant iron!

Fortunately help is just a phone call away! Bored of the Board is a family run business based in Weeping Cross & their service covers Stafford & its surrounding area. Collections & returns are done on weekday evenings- just phone arrange a time & have your items clean & folded in a bag ready to collect.

The arranged time slot for my collection was 6-6.30pm & their arrival as well within that! Beverlie-the proprietor of Bored of the Board was lovely, she asked me how many items I had & informed me returns are made approximately 48 hours after collection (or if collected on Friday return on Monday). We arranged a time for return & that was that!

Collection & deliveries at times other than weekday evenings can be arranged at special request & they will do their best to accommodate!

Two days later Beverlie was back with my items ironed, on hangers with protective covers. I had already told her that I would be calling on her regularly & I was presented with my own collection bag which had been labelled with my name & in which I would put my next lot of items to be ironed. Beverlie also asked me to return any hangers that weren’t being used & plastic covers with my next order.

Shirts, blouses & trousers etc, are returned on hangers & smaller items are folded in the bag. The quality of the ironing was superb, creases in the right places etc, it all looked great!

Prices are per item: Children’s (0-10 yrs) are 50p & Adult items & tea towels are 75p with an offer of 15 adult items for £10. Bedding & tablecloths are also taken costing £1.50-£2.00. Collection & delivery is free on orders over £10.

My 22 items included shirts, T-shirts & Trousers & the bill came to £15.25. I was very pleased with this service, its excellent value for money & a small price to pay for a good nights sleep & not getting chased by giant irons-I wonder what Freud would make of that?

Iceland Home Delivery.

22 Hunter’s Row, Gaolgate Place, Stafford, ST16 2AD, Tel 01785 245148 LOCATION!

Stafford247 Says:

For those of us without cars, supermarket shopping can be a pain, you either need to do several trips, get a cab or rely on a good pal with four wheels to get you & your shopping home!

Doing your shopping online has become a godsend to many people, the convenience of having all your shopping delivered to your door is great!

Iceland also do home delivery but the process is different. First you need to obtain a Home Delivery Card, & this is available in store. Just fill in the form, detach the card, hand the form in to a member of staff & you’re ready to go!

Before you shop you need to book a delivery slot, again find a member of staff to do this & also remember that home delivery is only available if you spend £25 or more-not difficult for most families!!

When you’re done go to the checkout as normal & inform the cashier that you have arranged delivery. I was most impressed when we tried out this service as they call another staff member to come & pack it all up for you which is the bit I hate!!

They asked us if there were any fresh items that we wanted to freeze then put those items in with the frozen food. All we had to do then was pay & go home!

Our delivery slot was booked for between 2pm & 4pm the following day & it arrived at around 3pm, brought by a very friendly young lady.

One of the disadvantages of online shopping is that you don’t always get exactly what you want, the great thing about doing it the Iceland way is that you’ve hand picked everything yourself so you know what you’re getting!

Iceland is also excellent value for money, there are always many special offers helping to save a few pennies. Remember also that they don’t just provide frozen foods! Fruit & veg, tinned goods, alcohol & cleaning products are available too so you can get everything under one roof.

We definitely recommend Iceland’s home delivery service; we can see why mums go there!!

Totally Polished.

24 Salter Street, Stafford, ST16 2JU, Tel 01785 229386. LOCATION!

stafford 18.2.07 033

Stafford247 Says:

Totally Polished is one of Stafford’s newest additions & offers a wide range of beauty treatments at reasonable prices. Choose from Facial treatments, eye treatments, waxing, manicures, pedicures & more!

For example a Luxury Mask Facial (including AHA peel) costs £38, body treatments include an Anti Cellulite Programme, also at £38 or the luxurious sounding Body Silk Treatment which removes dead skin cells & radiates the body at just £20.

For the less adventurous a Half Leg Wax is £15 & a Manicure is £17.

As a birthday treat I chose to have one of their Luxury Manicures at £22, my Beauty Therapist was a friendly young lady called Kate in whose capable hands I would be in for the next hour or so!!

My day job is very tough on my hands & several periods with false nails had started to take its toll. In their price list a Luxury Manicure is described as “A treatment to enhance the natural nail” which was precisely what my nails needed! My nails were shaped & polished, & my very sorry looking cuticles tidied up, then my hands were moisturised & massaged & placed in heated mittens, at which point Kate left me for a few minutes to relax & for the mittens to heat up. It was heavenly & I had to be careful not to nod off!!

After about 15 minutes, Kate returned & removed the mittens, my nails were then painted with the nail colour of my choice (a smashing & very dark chocolate brown!).

You get to choose your colour at the start of the appointment & there is also the option of a French Polish. For all their Manicures & Pedicures OPI products are used.

After expertly applying the nail colour, Kate showed me to the nail dryers & said someone would check on me shortly. About 15 minutes passed when another of the beauty therapists came over to check that my nails were dry. They were fine so all there was left to do was pay & that was it!!

My first experience of Totally Polished was great, the staff are friendly yet professional & the quality of treatment is superb. I left feeling not only totally polished but totally pampered too!!

TLC Dry Cleaners.

23 Salter St, Stafford, ST16 2JU, Tel 01785 245775 LOCATION!

Stafford247 Says:

Just before Christmas Sarah from stafford247 had a fashion crisis, her favourite party frock, (which had been hanging in her wardrobe since last Xmas!!) was covered in mould!! After much panicking, she decided to take it to TLC Dry Cleaners, in Salter Street, Stafford. They couldn’t have been more helpful. After taking a look, the lady said that of course they would do their best to get rid of the mould but some may remain & gave some advice on what Sarah could do to the dress at home if necessary. After two days it was ready to collect, & Sarah was delighted to see that ALL of the mould had been removed, & the dress along with its matching wrap looked as good as new. The dress & wrap cost £14.95 to be cleaned together. The assistants are friendly & helpful & Sarah was most grateful to them for saving her favourite frock! So, the moral of this story is if you want to be the Belle (or Bloke!!) of the Ball take your togs to TLC!!
